Girls basketball loses in Regional Finals
Varsity girls basketball’s season came to an end after losing to the Gaithersburg Trojans, 53-41, in the regional finals March 6.
After a competitive opening, the girls were tied 9-9 in the first quarter. Gaithersburg then took another lead, but with the help of one of Susan Russell’s famous 3 point jumpers, the Vikings brought the score back to a 21-21 tie at half time.
Throughout the rest of the game, the Trojans dominated, immediately taking a strong 9 point lead in the middle of the third quarter and keeping a fairly steady lead for the rest of the game.
With too many poor shots and turnovers, the girls fell under pressure, costing them their season.
The Vikings now look to next season. The junior varsity team went undefeated despite losing their four star players to Varsity, giving Whitman hope for the upcoming seasons.
