Perspectives on new D.C. gay marriage law

by James Dionne   Mar.10, 2010   Print

In a controversial decision, the D.C. council passed a new law allowing gay couples to apply for marriage licenses, effective March 3.

Opponents of the law requested that the Supreme Court intervene and strike down the law, but these protests were unsuccessful.

D.C. joined Massachusetts, Vermont, Connecticut, Iowa and New Hampshire in legalizing same sex unions.

While the decision may not directly affect any Whitman students in the near future, it is incredibly divisive.
