Football falls to Wootton 15-3 in first game

The football team started its season off with a 15-3 loss to the Wootton Patriots last night, dropping its record to 0-1.

The Vikes were plagued by turnovers and penalties throughout the game. Two fumbles negated the team’s two best drives in the first half and the team trailed the Patriots 7-3 at halftime.

The second half started with a long completion for the Patriots that immediately put them at the goal line. The Patriots promptly scored and took a 15-3 lead after.

It was much of the same after that as seemingly every positive play was brought back due to a penalty.

“We basically handed them the the game,” defensive end Nick Sobczyk said. “We couldn’t beat anybody with the way we played on offense last night.”

The team looks to rebound Sept. 7 when they face the 1-0 Churchill Bulldogs in a must-win second game.

Nothing better than a defensive end blaming his offense for a loss!
