The foodie awards: Best late-night eateries

It’s a well-known fact that all food tastes better late at night, especially when you’re  crowded around a table with your best friends.

Late night meals are the ideal time to strategize the perfect homecoming group, gossip or rehash the events of the night. These are some of the best places to grab a late night bite in Bethesda.

Tastee Diner

Tastee Diner is the best place for late night eating. The only bad thing about Tastee’s is the inevitable awkward run-in with other Whitman students you only sort-of know.

Their enormous milkshakes are perfect for sharing with your entire table, or keeping entirely to yourself. The waitresses won’t judge you for ordering chocolate chip pancakes and mozzarella sticks: there are some cravings that just can’t be explained, and at Tastees they don’t ask you to.

Open 24 hours.

McDonald’s drive-through

The McDonald’s drive-through is another place that won’t judge the amount of food you consume, mostly because they can’t see how many people are in your car.

Their McFlurrys are the perfect combination of ice cream, milkshake and candy, as long as you don’t question what’s actually in it. With their one-dollar sodas and always warm fries, McDonalds can make you happy as long as you’re not counting calories.

Open until 1:00 a.m.

Bold Bite

Hot dogs and fries are a classic junk-food staple, but at Bold Bite you can create your own masterpiece with the restaurant’s extensive topping options.

Fries also come covered in chili and cheese or with any of the house sauces like arugula pesto or Cajun ketchup. For dessert, they specialize in homemade ice cream sandwiches. Before you leave, don’t forget to document your visit in the bathroom with chalkboard-covered walls.

Open until 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, 1:30 a.m. Thursday, 8:30 p.m. Sunday-Wednesday.

To truly appreciate these restaurants, it needs to be so late that you can’t be sure whether the calories will count for today or tomorrow. At this time, you can eat whatever your stomach desires. Whenever you’re struck with a late night craving, these restaurants are guaranteed to come through.
