						<description><![CDATA[Along with the nuances of passive voice and the film "Shattered Glass," one of the more lasting experiences of the Intro to Journalism class is memorizing two Supreme Court cases: Tinker v. Des Moines Independent Community School District and Hazelwood v. Kuhlmeier.  Nutshell summary: Tinker in 1969 allowed for antiwar armbands in the spirit of not leaving the First Amendment "at the schoolhouse gate."  Nineteen years later, when a Missouri high school principal was not a fan of articles about pregnancy and divorce, he cut two full pages of the student-run newspaper.  In the ensuing court case, Justice Byron White endorsed the notion of prior review for principals, tipping the scales in favor of censorship nationwide.]]></description>
